Bonds<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-taking-the-pressure-off\">Taking the Pressure Off<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>As investors ditched stocks for bonds throughout the week, Treasury yields fell and gave stocks some much-needed breathing room to rally.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The 10-year Treasury yield came down off of last week\u2019s high of 3.48%.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-where-my-knife-catchers-at\">Where My Knife Catchers At<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Markets briefly rallied on Wednesday afternoon after the Fed\u2019s interest rate hike, but those gains were quickly reversed on Thursday.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Dow Jones, S&amp;P 500, and Nasdaq are all up (but not by much) after damn near ten weeks of losses. The energy sector took quite the tumble in order to give sectors this brief, but likely temporary, relief.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Some investors are saying that quantitative tightening cannot last too much longer, as its fallout will force the Fed to start expanding money supply again. This, in turn, will cause cash to flow back into risk assets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sector Performance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Energy: -12.74%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Materials: -3.73%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Real Estate: 0.36%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Telecom: 0.13%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>S&amp;P 500 Winners &amp; Losers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Boeing: 13.02%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Epam Systems Inc: 10.82%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Devon Energy: -14.25%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Diamondback Energy: -12.46%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-late-to-the-party\">Late to the Party<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Data analytics firm S3 Partners recently reported that U.S. equity short-sellers are up on average more than 30% for the year. Shorting crypto, in particular, has been one of the best plays in this macro environment, returning 126% in 2022.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Most of this short interest has been directed at crypto exchange Coinbase, Bitcoin miner Marathon Digital Holdings and business intelligence company MicroStrategy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>S3 also said that stock borrower utilization is already at 91%, meaning that it\u2019s probably too late for new investors to pile into this trade.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id='real-estate' class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-real-estate\">Real Estate<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-even-redfin-is-seeing-red\">Even Redfin is seeing Red<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The average rate on the 30-year fixed mortgage hit 6.11% last Monday, up from 5.55% just one week prior. It has since cooled down a bit to 6.03%.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>According to Redfin, today\u2019s home buyer with a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage is looking at a monthly payment of $2,514, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.redfin.com\/news\/housing-market-update-price-drops-hit-new-record\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">up from $1,692 a year ago<\/a>. But on the bright side, those who remain in the market are now facing less competition compared to last year when newly listed homes were flying off the market within a week.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rising rates have also hit major online real estate brokerages hard, with Redfin and Compass both announcing layoffs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Real estate investors also seem to be holding off for now, with many waiting for bigger price drops so they can snag properties up on the cheap.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id='crypto' class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-crypto\">Crypto<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-maximum-pain\">Maximum Pain<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>According to the Crypto Fear &amp; Greed Index, investors are now more fearful than they\u2019ve been since March 2020.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It has truly been a roller coaster of a week, with crypto prices dropping over 20% and rebounding by that same amount.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bitcoin and Ethereum fell as low as $17.5k and $881 respectively, both of them smashing through support levels untouched since 2020. This carnage is in large part, due to the failure of centralized crypto players like Celsius, Babel Finance and Three Arrows Capital. Just one day after this record drop, though, both BTC and ETH reclaimed their key support levels.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There has also been the recent FUD that mining has become unprofitable at current BTC prices. But according to Galaxy Digital\u2019s model, the marginal cost of production for large miners is as low as $8.12k.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-end-of-solend\">The End of Solend?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Solend, a popular \u201cDeFi\u201d lending protocol on Solana, shocked the cryptosphere last week by launching a governance proposal which aimed to take control of a $100M+ whale wallet at risk of liquidation. This was done to avoid a potential meltdown that would drive the price of $SOL to zero.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>While the vote closed with a 97% approval rating, the backlash on Twitter prompted Solend to nullify the approved proposal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-mentions\">Mentions<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Crypto detractors and investors alike can now hedge their portfolios with The ProShares Short Bitcoin Strategy ETF. Still no word on when a US Bitcoin spot ETF will be approved, though.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Despite facing a $258B lawsuit for promoting Dogecoin, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1538406040374595585\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Elon Musk still tweeted<\/a> that he \u201cwill keep supporting Dogecoin\u201d.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Billionaire Sam Bankman-Fried\u2019s companies FTX and Alameda Research have lent crypto lending apps Voyager and BlockFi $485M and $250M each to safeguard customers\u2019 assets during this market volatility.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stablecoin issuer Circle has launched Euro Coin, a Euro-backed stablecoin in the vein of USDC.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id='nfts-metaverse' class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-nfts-amp-metaverse\">NFTs &amp; Metaverse<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-punks-are-pumping\">Punks are Pumping<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>After a sharp downturn two weeks ago, the total NFT market cap has been steadily recovering and is currently valued at $22.7B.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Blue chip NFT collection CryptoPunks\u2019 market cap saw a +5.32% increase to $2.09B off the back of some exciting developments. Noah Davis, an NFT specialist at auction house Christie\u2019s, is going to work at Yuga Labs as the brand lead for CryptoPunks.
