How you make money
Digit works by reading your linked bank account to intelligently and safely save money for you automatically. When you link a bank account, Digit will immediately go to work reading your spending and income to look for safe times to save. There is no action needed from you to "turn on" automatic savings. When it can, Digit does the work of intelligently determining the right amounts to set aside based on your unique financial situation. Saving with Digit rewards you with a 0.10% annual Savings Bonus paid every 3 months. Your bonus amount is calculated from the average daily balance in your Digit account over the previous 3 months — including Rainy Day savings and money accrued toward goals or bills.
Your Digit portfolio will be made up of ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds), which are broad holdings of stocks, bonds, cash and more. A diversified portfolio, such as the one you would get with Digit, helps balance out the risk that can come with investing in one specific stock. Your investment portfolio is made up of ETFs based on the risk tolerance you set when you first sign up.
How Digit makes money
After the end of your 30-day free trial, a Digit membership is $5.00 a month. The membership cost is billed directly from your linked checking account, and your subscription begins automatically unless you close your account before the end of your free trial period. They'll send you an email reminder before your first charge.

How You’re Taxed
Capital Gains
As with any stock realized stock gains, investors are subject to capital gains tax. If gains are realized within one year, you are taxed at your income tax rate. If gains are realized after one year, you are subject to a long-term capital gains tax of 0% to 20%. A common service that some robo-advisors offer through their systems is automatic tax-loss harvesting. Tax-loss harvesting is a deliberate strategy whereby any loss from the sale of a security in a taxable account is used to offset a capital gain or taxable income, thereby reducing the tax paid.
