The Brief

MoneyMade Verdict

Ellevest is no longer a robo-advisor — it exited automated investing in April 2025 and now operates exclusively as a wealth management firm for clients with $500,000 or more, making it irrelevant for the everyday investor it once served.

Ellevest was founded in 2014 by Sallie Krawcheck, a former Bank of America and Citigroup executive, with a stated mission to close the gender investing gap. The platform was built from the ground up with women in mind — using proprietary algorithms that account for the longer lifespans, more variable career earnings, and different retirement needs typical of women investors. At its peak, Ellevest served over 100,000 robo-advisory clients and managed hundreds of millions in automated portfolios.

In April 2025, Ellevest made a decisive strategic pivot: the company shut down its automated investing robo-advisor entirely and transitioned all clients to third-party providers (primarily Fidelity). It now operates exclusively as a private wealth management firm, serving clients with $500,000 or more in investable assets through Ellevest Private Wealth Management (PWM). The firm continues to publish financial education content, run workshops and events, and offer one-on-one financial planning — but the robo-advisor product that made the company relevant to everyday investors no longer exists. Any reviewer pointing to Ellevest as a robo option in 2026 is citing a product that has been retired.
