SMBX is a marketplace connecting everyday investors like you with small businesses to invest in. You can earn up to 9% interest by investing in small businesses. SMBX is the creator of the Small Business Bond™, which is a new way for you to invest in the local businesses you love. These bonds are like a loan, but instead of borrowing funds from a bank, a business borrows from everyday investors like you. Anyone with a US-based bank account can choose small businesses on the SMBX platform to invest in and receive a monthly principal plus interest payments.
How you make money
You choose specific businesses on the SMBX marketplace to invest in by buying their bonds. Once a bond offering closes that you’ve invested in, you’ll begin receiving monthly payments for the duration of the bond as the business pays you back. Unlike many bonds which pay back principal at the end of the bond term, SMBX Small Business Bonds™ pay out principal and interest monthly, so you can reinvest and compound your money further. You can either keep the funds in your book, reinvest in new offerings, or withdraw to your bank account.
How SMBX makes money
Investors can invest with zero fees, and SMBX doesn’t make any interest on your money. SMBX makes money by charging businesses a 3.5% service fee of the total amount raised, but only if the business meets its fundraising goal. For example, if a business raises $100,000, they charge them $3,500 at the close of the offering. They also charge businesses a $100 annual maintenance fee through the maturity of their bonds. There are multiple fees for businesses but SMBX does not charge any fees to investors.
Is it safe?
SMBX’s underwriting team holistically reviews businesses that want to raise capital on the SMBX based on standardized criteria for risk, and it only qualifies those businesses that meet the minimum criteria. Detailed information, including financial statements and whether the bonds are secured against collateral is provided for investors’ review. SMBX is a FINRA-registered and SEC-governed regulation crowdfunding portal. SMBX does not offer investment advice or recommendations regarding the suitability of a particular investment opportunity for any particular investor. Investors must be able to assess businesses and their offerings and make investment decisions on their own.
