The Brief

MoneyMade Verdict

eToro is the best crypto platform for social and copy trading, but its 1% per-side fee structure and limited U.S. coin selection make it a poor fit for active traders or anyone who's outgrown the basics.

eToro is an Israeli-founded multi-asset trading platform that launched in 2007 and has since become one of the most widely known brokerages for social and copy trading. The company operates in over 100 countries and claims more than 38 million registered users worldwide. In the U.S., its offering is intentionally narrower than in other markets: U.S. retail customers can trade crypto, stocks, ETFs, and options through eToro's regulated U.S. broker-dealer, but international stock trading, CFDs, and a number of emerging-market assets that are available in other regions are not accessible to Americans. The crypto product supports roughly 20+ cryptocurrencies in the U.S. — compared to 100+ coins in international markets — making it feel more restrictive for serious crypto investors than its global marketing might suggest.

The platform's signature feature remains CopyTrader, which lets users automatically replicate the trades of other users on the platform — a feature that has attracted millions of passive investors globally. For crypto specifically, eToro operates as a full-service brokerage with a notable 1% per-side fee structure: buyers pay 1% on purchase, and sellers pay 1% on sale, for an effective round-trip cost of 2% on crypto. This is materially higher than competitors like Coinbase Advanced (0.4% taker), Kraken Pro (0.26% taker), or Binance.US (0.1%), making eToro one of the more expensive crypto venues for active or frequent traders. The platform also offers staking on major Proof-of-Stake coins, with eToro retaining a share of the staking rewards (typically 25%) as a custodian fee.
